Dinosaur exhibition temporarily closes in Atlanta after intruders cause expensive damage
ATLANTA (AP) — A dinosaur exhibition linked to the Jurassic Park movie franchise has temporarily closed its Atlanta location after police say people broke in and caused more than $250,000 in damage.
Atlanta police say they responded Monday to a burglary call at the exhibition, which had just opened Friday at Pullman Yards, an event space east of downtown Atlanta.

Leaders of Venezuela's fractured opposition are shaking voters’ hands and promising — yet again — that they will defeat President Nicolás Maduro at the ballot box. Maduro is backed by the all-powerful United Socialist Party of Venezuela, which has controlled the nation and its oil wealth for a quarter-century. Despite the sky-high odds against them, opposition leaders say that giving up would be worse, so they’re holding an Oct. 22 primary to decide who will take on Maduro next year. They are getting a lukewarm reception from dispirited voters.
Joey Wiemer hit a game-winning single in the 10th inning to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Wiemer's hit came off Austin Voth (1-2). It scored pinch-runner Andruw Monasterio, who was the automatic runner. Baltimore dropped to 5 1/2 games behind AL East-leading Tampa Bay, which won its fourth straight game. Milwaukee moved into first place in the NL Central, a half-game ahead of Pittsburgh, which lost after winning six straight.
The Wisconsin Assembly is slated to approve a package of bills Wednesday designed to help improve the system of issuing professional licenses to everyone from tattoo artists to doctors and nurses that has been plagued with delays since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Republicans who control the Legislature have blamed the delays on Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ administration. All of the bills up for a vote Wednesday were supported by Republicans in committee and opposed by Democrats. One measure would double the length of time licenses would remain in effect, from two years to four years. The proposed change is backed by Wisconsin hospitals, nurses and other health care providers.
As politicians and activists push for limits on discussions of race, gender and sexuality, some students say the measures targeting aspects of their identity have made them less welcome in American schools — the one place all kids are supposed to feel safe. For students of color and LGBTQ+ kids, it can feel like their very existence is being rejected. Among them are a transgender student at a Pennsylvania school where teachers are directed to use only students' birth names, a bisexual student in Florida, and a Black student outside Nashville alarmed by efforts to restrict lessons on Black history.
Ukrainians make desperate escape from floods after dam collapse as shelling echoes overhead
Former Vice President Mike Pence is staking his presidential hopes on Iowa as he launches his campaign for the 2024 Republican nomination in Des Moines on Wednesday. Pence's candidacy will make him the first vice president in modern history to take on the commander-in-chief with whom he served. It will test the party's appetite for a socially conservative, mild-mannered and deeply religious candidate who has denounced the populist tide that has swept through his party under former President Donald Trump. Pence also has to contend with the lingering fallout from his actions on Jan. 6, 2021.

An ambitious push to decarbonize Canada's grid and the nation's growing demand for green energy is causing concerns in the U.S. that Canadian hydro supplies aren't as plentiful as they used to be. Importing more of Canada's historically abundant hydroelectricity is seen as a key component to making the U.S. electric grid carbon-free by 2035, as well as improving energy reliability and cost for American consumers. New England governors are hoping hydropower from Quebec will help the region wean itself off fossil fuels and improve reliability. But lawmakers in Maine are questioning whether Quebec has enough hydropower for approved transmission lines through Maine and New York.

China's exports fell 7.5% from a year earlier in May and imports were down 4.5%, adding to signs an economic recovery is slowing. Customs data show exports slid to $283.5 billion, reversing from April's unexpectedly strong 8.5% growth. Imports fell to $217.7 billion, moderating from the previous month's 7.9% contraction. Trade weakness adds to signs of a slowing of China's rebound following the December lifting of anti-virus controls that disrupted travel and commerce. Retail spending is weaker than expected as consumers worry about the economic outlook and possible job losses. Manufacturing activity has been contracting as interest rate hikes in the United States and Europe chill demand for exports.

Mount Rainier National Park officials say search crews have found and recovered the body of a man matching the description of a solo climber reported missing. Officials said Tuesday that 80-year-old Dawes Eddy of Spokane, Washington, embarked on a solo climb on May 30 and was last seen that night heading up hill on an area of the mountain known as Cathedral Gap. Officials say park rangers were notified Thursday that he hadn't returned as expected and began searching likely climbing routes. On Monday night, officials say two mountaineering guides spotted an unresponsive climber in a crevasse. A team recovered the body Tuesday. The Pierce County Medical Examiner will identify the climber.

NEW YORK (AP) — Liam Hendriks earned his first save since returning from cancer, Lucas Giolito pitched six hitless innings and the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 3-2 on Tuesday night for their season-high fourth straight victory.
Rob Refsnyder had the go-ahead RBI single in a four-run eighth inning and James Paxton tied his season high with nine strikeouts, giving the Boston Red Sox a 5-4 victory over the Cleveland Guardians. Kiké Hernández drove in two runs and Masataka Yoshida had three hits for the Red Sox, who put their first six batters on base in the eighth against relievers Enyel De Los Santos and Nick Sandlin. Paxton allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings, matching his longest outing since Sept. 3, 2019, with the Yankees. Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth for his 13th save in 16 opportunities.
Matt McLain's single to deep center field highlighted a three-run comeback in the ninth inning as the Cincinnati Reds rallied to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-8 on Tuesday night. McLain singled over the head of Jason Heyward in center field to score Stuart Fairchild and snap Cincinnati's nine-game losing streak against the Dodgers. McLain finished with three singles for the Reds (28-33), who hadn't beaten Los Angeles (35-26) since Sept. 17, 2021. Eduardo Salazar (1-0) earned the win with an inning of relief. Cincinnati slugger Elly De La Cruz made his major league debut. The 21-year-old batted cleanup and finished with a hit, two walks and a run scored in three at-bats.
Liam Hendriks earned his first save since returning from cancer, Lucas Giolito pitched six hitless innings and the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 3-2 for their season-high fourth straight victory. Isiah Kiner-Falefa ended Chicago's combined no-hit bid with a two-out RBI double in the seventh off reliever Joe Kelly on a ball that fell between center fielder Luis Robert Jr. and left fielder Andrew Benintendi. Josh Donaldson hit his third homer in three games on the first pitch from Hendriks in the bottom of the ninth. Hendriks then finished the two-hitter by getting three straight groundouts. The All-Star reliever returned to the mound May 29 from stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma and got his first win of the season Sunday.
James Paxton gave the Red Sox exactly the kind of dominant starting pitching performance they’ve so badly needed, and yet for most of the outing it looked like it might be wasted by another punchless offensive performance.

Federal prosecutors are using a grand jury in Florida as part of their investigation into the possible mishandling of classified documents at former President Donald Trump's Palm Beach property. That's according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press. The grand jury is in addition to a separate panel that has been meeting in Washington for months to consider charges against Trump over the retention of hundreds of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and potential obstruction of government efforts to reclaim the records. A spokesman for special counsel Jack Smith declined to comment.
